SUNDAY SWEETS: MY HOMEMADE PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE!

You might already be aware, but the Pumpkin Spice Latte has made its seasonal return to the Starbucks menu and I couldn’t be happier. Pumpkin lattes are really yummy and have that cozy fall feeling. It’s the perfect drink to warm you up on a crisp autumn day or simply fill your tummy with something toasty and delicious and scented with the spices of the season.

I’ve been researching a few recipes so that I can enjoy a pumpkin spice latte anytime, even when I’m at home. Here’s a tasty and homemade recipe that I’m dying to try:

Ingredients
1 cup of freshly brewed coffee
½ cup of 2% milk
1 teaspoon of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
½ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (Unsweetened is best!)

Instructions
1. First things first, you’ll need to brew some coffee. It doesn’t really matter what kind of coffee (Italian Roast, Breakfast Blend, French Roast etc.), butFoodieBride.com suggests making it on the strong side.

2. Next you’ll prepare the pumpkin mixture! This is what gives the latte its pumpkin-y flavor.

    a. To begin, you’ll want to add the milk to a large microwave-safe mug or bowl. I suggest using 2% milk because it’s creamier than non-fat. ButRecipeGirl.com points out that if you’re looking to be really healthy you can use non-fat.

    b. Next, add the brown sugar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and canned pumpkin puree to the milk and whisk it all together.

c. Once the ingredients are blended, microwave for 1-2 minutes. Every microwave is different, but a good tip that I read about onTheMorningFresh.com is that the milk should be frothy…that’s when you know it’s ready. I would wait until it’s a little steamy and looks extra creamy. Yum!

3. After the pumpkin mixture is complete, simply add a cup of fresh hot coffee and your latte is just about complete.

4. For the finishing touches, pour the liquid into your favorite mug. (I loveTheMorningFresh.com’s idea to use a mason jar!) Then add some whipped cream and sprinkle about a ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg on top.

And…ta-da! You’ve made your very own pumpkin spice latte!
